Somewhere between 10% and 25% of pregnancies end in miscarriage. 1 in 4 people who can get pregnant will experience a miscarriage. A miscarriage is a completely normal, natural process that happens surprisingly frequently. Why on earth should it be reported to law enforcement, and how on earth does this not constitute gross government overreach into people’s private lives?

#1 At one public school down in Texas, a 12-year-old girl named Sarah Bustamantes was recently arrested for spraying herself with perfume.

#2 A 13-year-old student at a school in Albuquerque, New Mexico was recently arrested by police for burping in class.

#3 Another student down in Albuquerque was forced to strip down to his underwear while five adults watched because he had $200 in his pocket. The student was never formally charged with doing anything wrong.

#4 A security guard at one school in California broke the arm of a 16-year-old girl because she left some crumbs on the floor after cleaning up some cake that she had spilled.

#5 One teenage couple down in Houston poured milk on each other during a squabble while they were breaking up. Instead of being sent to see the principal, they were arrested and sent to court.

#6 In early 2010, a 12-year-old girl at a school in Forest Hills, New York was arrested by police and marched out of her school in handcuffs just because she doodled on her desk. “I love my friends Abby and Faith” was what she reportedly scribbled on her desk.

#7 A 6-year-old girl down in Florida was handcuffed and sent to a mental facility after throwing temper tantrums at her elementary school.

#8 One student down in Texas was reportedly arrested by police for throwing paper airplanes in class.

#9 A 17-year-old honor student in North Carolina named Ashley Smithwick accidentally took her father’s lunch with her to school. It contained a small paring knife which he would use to slice up apples. So what happened to this standout student when the school discovered this? The school suspended her for the rest of the year and the police charged her with a misdemeanor.

#10 In Allentown, Pennsylvania a 14-year-old girl was tasered in the groin area by a school security officer even though she had put up her hands in the air to surrender.

#11 Down in Florida, an 11-year-old student was arrested, thrown in jail and charged with a third-degree felony for bringing a plastic butter knife to school.

#12 Back in 2009, an 8-year-old boy in Massachusetts was sent home from school and was forced to undergo a psychological evaluation because he drew a picture of Jesus on the cross.

#13 A police officer in San Mateo, California blasted a 7-year-old special education student in the face with pepper spray because he would not quit climbing on the furniture.

#14 In America today, even 5-year-old children are treated brutally by police. The following is from a recent article that described what happened to one very young student in Stockton, California a while back….

“Earlier this year, a Stockton student was handcuffed with zip ties on his hands and feet, forced to go to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation and was charged with battery on a police officer. That student was 5 years old”.

#15 At one school in Connecticut, a 17-year-old boy was thrown to the floor and tasered five times because he was yelling at a cafeteria worker.

#16 A teenager in suburban Dallas was forced to take on a part-time job after being ticketed for using foul language in one high school classroom. The original ticket was for $340, but additional fees have raised the total bill to $637.

#17 A few months ago, police were called out when a little girl kissed a little boy during a physical education class at an elementary school down in Florida.

#18 A 6-year-old boy was recently charged with sexual battery for some “inappropriate touching” during a game of tag at one elementary school in the San Francisco area.

#19 In Massachusetts, police were recently sent out to collect an overdue library book from a 5-year-old girl.

“So I shouldn’t be surprised that the Mother’s Day Parade shooting has largely been forgotten. On Sunday, shots were fired into a crowd during a parade in the New Orleans 7th ward. Police said they saw three suspects running from the scene.

This is the largest mass shooting in the United States where the shooters were still at large after the crime was committed. Think about that for a minute. From Columbine to Virginia Tech to Fort Hill to Aurora, all the shooters were either killed or apprehended on site. But the person or people responsible for shooting 19 Americans are still free.”

One of the people who got shot was an antiviolence blogger. Somehow we aren’t seeing massive solidarity for New Orleans or the entire city going on police lockdown to find the perpetrators. Two reasons: 1) This mostly affected Black people, and we all know how much the media and the police give any fucks about Black people in New Orleans; 2) This was a gun crime, so we can’t criticize it because GUNS ARE FREEDOM!

Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne holds up Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett as the kind of mayor who talks sense about gun control. That’s the kind that makes the gun lobby nervous.

Harry Reid says that gun safety advocates will “settle” for legislation leaving gaping holes in the background check system. Harry Reid is very wrong.

Marco Rubio wants the president to “demand the IRS Commissioner’s resignation, effectively immediately” over news that the agency gave special attention to Tea Party groups seeking tax exempt status. The problem: there is no IRS Commissioner. The previous commissioner’s term ended during the last election year, meaning nominating a replacement was completely impossible. “The Republicans would block anybody that Obama sent up.” Jeff Trinca, a former chief of staff for the National Commission on Restructuring the Internal Revenue Service, said at the time. So Rubio’s demanding a resignation from a position that’s empty because of Republican obstructionism.

Democrats are fighting over what to do with California’s $4.5 billion budget surplus. A problem you want to have. Liberal economic policies work. Here’s living proof.

Finally, John McCain becomes the latest Republican to thank Fox News for all their help in hyping Benghazi.

These are the comments on a Yahoo article about how Cooper Union, an art college in NYC that offers free tuition, is going to start charging for tuition. These are the kind of people that get us down! I don’t go to Cooper Union but a classmate of mine from high school goes to Cooper Union and he worked his ass off to get in. He is a really talented artist and didn’t get handed the acceptance letter for nothing. If we’re the “entitlement generation” then how about you are the “complaining generation” since all you seem to do is point fingers and complain about shit but never do anything to change your pathetic lives.

The whole prestige part of Cooper Union was working your ASS off to get in. They don’t “pay tuition” because they effectively won full scholarship! The school has MILLIONS of dollars in investments that fund that scholarship; was the endowment mismanaged? Or is Cooper Union jealous of all the fees that the University of Phoenix collects?

Most retailers are now embracing safety standard checks, unions without employer permission and a raise in wages; the two hold-outs on these necessary reforms are Wal-Mart & the Gap (which also owns Old Navy & Banana Republic).

While it is easy to understand how these changes in policy will make a difference in the lives of workers in Bangladesh, it’s tragic there was need for such a huge loss of life in order for the employers to see need for these changes. Surely if anybody had asked the workers if they thought there needed to be changes, they would have said YES, long ago. This is the problem with top-down capitalism; as it rarely cares for those who actually make profiteering possible in the first place and allows particularly bad corporations like Wal-Mart and the Gap to opt-out of needed changes for employees, We at People Rise Up Radio would say this tragedy doesn’t call out for “reforms,” as much as it does worker cooperatives, where the employees have full control over their own working conditions and the goals of their company.

House GOP Votes To End Overtime Pay With ‘Working Families Flexibility Act’:

The Working Families Flexibility Act will make it easier for employers to avoid paying for overtime and give workers far less flexibility in their lives.

A few people have asked why I’m against this bill. It’s a fair question: what’s so bad about getting to choose whether you get overtime pay or comp time (paid time off) at your job? If you’re a working parent, or you wish you had more time to travel, or whatever, getting comp time instead of overtime pay doesn’t sound too bad.

Here’s the issue: it lets your EMPLOYER choose which one you get. The Fair Labor Standards Act says your boss has to pay you time-and-a-half when you work overtime. If you’re struggling to pay the bills, you probably don’t want more vacation days. You want the money you earned by working ridiculous hours. You want to see your paycheck, not your PTO balance, reflect the time you put in.

Comp time is great. But you can’t trade it in for money - or for your electricity bill. It’d be great if workers could CHOOSE overtime pay or extra paid time off, but letting the employer choose on your behalf is a pretty clear ploy to let employers stop paying you more to work more.
